It's never what you do, but how it's done," and DJ Mark Ronson appears to be aware of this. Prior to reading DJ Mark Ronson's NPR interview/TED talk entitled "How Sampling Transformed Music," I wasn't completely familiar with Ronson's work although I knew his name was synonymous with producing Amy Winehouse and Bruno Mars. After reading the article, I was surprised to find how extensive Ronson's appreciation for the late 1980s and early 1990s R&B music is. Ronson goes on to state "we are all children of what came before us, you're taking the things you love and recreating them for now." Furthermore, based on his knowledge of distinct artists such as ; Terence Trent d'arby. Ronson makes a point to highlight how influential our musical ancestors are which explains why every present generation either samples or covers music from the previous 2 generations.As opposed to a claim of fact (objective) Ronson's views on music sampling are based on both value claim (moral, judgement) and policy ( proposal, need ,justification) .
Ps Some of my favorite producers include J Dilla , Madlib, The Rza, A-Plus and Flying Lotus to just to name a few. Even though all 5 of these producers often utilize sample based production they always give credit not only to the artist they sample but to the artist which inspire them as well. One example of this appreciation is the Madlib Blue Note Records Project where Madlib samples jazz records from The Blue Note Records catalogue to create fresh instrumentals and songs. Projects such as these are for introducing 21st the crowds to 20th century waves of sound in which bridges age and culture gaps too. So when sampling music is done properly and the original artist is credited it's a beautiful sign of respect and homage. Just ask Frankie Beverly who was more than grateful when Beyonce sampled/covered one of his songs ine 2019.
Pps Considering that music sampling is based on preexisting works, I am beginning to reconsider weather or Mark Rondon's views may also be rooted in a claim of fact. However I am not convinced enough to fully retract my initial sentiments.
