Margret L Anderson and Patricia Hill Collins authors of Race, Class and Gender highlight why Race, Class and Gender still matter in the 21st Century. One vital reason why Race, Class and Gender are still relevant is Donald Trump's mission to build The WALL to prevent Mexican "criminals" bka refugees seeking better lives in the so called land of the free.
The inhuman treatment Latino/Melanated families receive while detained in U.S "detention centers" are deplorable even by animal shelter guidelines.
I know a large demographic of U.S citizens claim "since Obama was elected U.S President for two terms, we live in a post racial era". For anyone who subscribes to that fantasy needs to be reminded that if Race Class and Gender are important in the 2019 why did Donald Trump Jr claim 2020 U.S President Senator Kamala Harris wasn't a Black born from U.S slaves ? Aren't there more important issues to address? And do Melanated Women have the same access to the 1st Amendment ? I'm sure Octasio Cortez and Maxine Waters will conclude the Race and Gender scales are skewed as well as the scales used to contrast class .
In theory, "the U.S. is founded on the principle of equality" however in law " equality has historically been denied too may" ( M Anderson and P Collins Race Class & Gender
"Race Class and Gender remain to structure society in ways that value some lives more than others."
Some groups are bestowed opportunities others are not i.e opportunity to attend private school, private sports clubs and the legal opportunity to stand your ground (George Zimmerman)
Long term effect ?
In 1960 Marin City was built to house the Melanated laborers who were "legally" unable to reside anywhere else in the entire county and this occured due to housing restrictions which is legal jargon for segregation. Now when I attended St Patrick's Private School in 1996 I was the only Melanated male student to attend the school and was because generally Melanated people can not perform well enough in private school settings or is it they can not afford it ?
how many non White , non wealthy and non men have been president in the U.S ?
